Record calls apps with third-party

Android 9.0 Pie was beginning to reach compatible devices at the beginning of last week, but even today we are still discovering news about the latest version of the operating system. The last one, it is a surprise that will not please everyone, and is that in its desire to restrict suspicious behavior that could end in abuse by third party applications, Google has decided to block the operation of those applications responsible for recording calls .

As stated in calling apps android , several developers of popular call recording applications have indicated that, on Android Pie, Google has blocked the mechanism through which these tools were based to make audio recordings of calls . And the only way to skip the new restrictions will be, as expected, with superuser or root permissions .

Goodbye to call recording apps on Android Pie

Already in February, rumors began to appear - which we denied - suggesting that Android Pie could include native call recording . Later, however, we saw that it was not so . In fact, the search engine company seems to have focused its efforts on avoiding by all means that users record calls.

This is not the first time that Google makes such a move. In Android 6 Marshmallow, the native call recording API was completely eliminated , so that developers had to search for life and find a solution for their applications to continue providing some usefulness for users. Among the apps that could still record calls, were ACR CallRecorder or BoldBeast.

And it was precisely the developers of these apps who have warned of the changes that are coming with Android Pie. In short, Google would have completely blocked the alternative solution that had been found after the removal of the CallRecorder API , and therefore it is now only possible to record calls with those applications that skip the restrictions imposed by the operating system through permissions of superuser.

Keep in mind that this decision made by Google makes some sense: in some countries, recording calls is an illegal act that can carry penalties for all those who do . Therefore, everything indicates that the company has wanted to heal itself in health and, instead of offering facilities to developers, or implementing a native call recording system that works only in those countries where it is not illegal, the company has decided to cut for the healthy.
